APRIL, 2005 MONTHLY MEETING

President Bob McMillan called the meeting to order promptly at 7:00 PM.  Bob asked the Secretary to read last month’s meeting minutes.  The minutes were read and approved by all members present. Bob then asked for a Treasurer’s report.  The report was given and approved by all members present.  B. C. commented that as of this meeting we have 55 paid members, 7 dues waived members and other members for a total of 70 members. Blackie was then asked for a field committee report.  He stated that the grass had not been cut due to the bad weather we have had recently.  He said that the grass would be cut this Thursday for sure.  Bob has repaired the gas tank for the Gravely mower and Willard has a new starter solenoid for the Stanley. Mike was asked for a safety report.  Mike said that he had checked with our AMA safety person and had confirmed that any take off or landing in the taxiway or pilot box area is strictly prohibited.  A motion was made and approved to call back our motion from our last meeting that said it was all right to take off from these areas as long as no one was in the area beyond the flight line.  We made it clear that under no circumstances was a take off or landing allowed from anywhere but the runway.

Mike also discussed a problem someone had with our elevated plane stands.  He said the engine on a plane started in reverse, causing the plane to move backwards off of the plane stand.  He proposed that we add wood blocks behind the wheels of our planes to prevent any rearward movement.  Mike agreed to install the needed wooden blocks.

OLD BUSINESS

Bob advised that we had sent off our annual club charter information to the AMA along with our fees and had received our AMA charter and insurance certificates.  Bob has them if anyone wants to see them. Blackie was asked if he had any new information on our lawn mower search.  He advised that he has been looking but has not come up with a recommendation as of yet.  He is still working on it and will report as soon as he finds what he thinks we need.

Mike was asked for an update on our Big Bird scheduled for May 14, 2005.  He advised that we have received the sanction from AMA.  He also said that he needs help coming up with door prizes.  He will take anything he can get.  Matt has agreed to cook the Friday evening meal.  Willard was advised that the concession stand would have to handle our cold drink needs as part of that operation.  He said that he still has several positions open and is looking for someone to help fill them.

Willard commented that our recent Family Day was a great success.  We had more than 55 people attend with about 31 airplanes on hand.  We popped balloons and had a great time.  We are sorry to announce that a balloon string he collided with shot down Marvin.  The damage wasn’t too bad.

NEW BUSINESS

We had two people applying for membership.  They are Jerry Werner who is joining us from Red Stick and Jim Fife who is a past member coming back to join us again.  All members present approved both for membership.

Blackie reminded us that our Cub Day is scheduled for April 16.  Bring your Cub to fly for sure plus anything else you want to fly.  He will cook his famous jambalaya for us but reminded us to bring our own drinks.  We hope the ladies will provide the wonderful deserts as they have done for past events.

Charlie Dedon announced that he just purchased 6 cases of 15% fuel for the club members who need it.  He said it is $14.35 per gallon or $57.40 per case.  See him to get what you need.

George is working on scheduling our after meeting presentations.  He asked if we had any subjects that we would like presented.  Several suggestions were made which include electric planes and motors, prop selection, fuel and glow plug selection, and some others.  If you have any suggestions, contact George Sexton.

A motion was made at 7:45 PM to adjourn.  All members present approved it.
